The Guilds are self-sustaining networks of professionals who seek to advance the thinking and practice of their respective fields.

The Law Guild focuses on exploring and promoting professionalism and integrity in the challenging and demanding environment of the law. It thinks about the place and importance of ‘the law’ in Europe’s societies but also reflects on a variety of systems of justice and reconciliation (Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRCs), hybrid reconciliation, indigenous reconciliation, top-down reconciliation; retributive justice, restorative justice). Through it all, they continuously aim to balance the needs of justice, forgiveness, and honesty.

As such, and more concretely, the Guild contemplates the grounds for ethical behaviour and reflects on models of integrity.

Some of the other questions the Guild asks are:

  • How does the law function to further human flourishing?
  • How can we raise our voice to maintain or establish just societies?
  • How can we deal well with the legal challenges that are affecting us personally and professionally?
